Welcome to our new Board Chair
Deb Zettel-Schmitt was elected the Chair of the Catholic Community Foundation of Waterloo Region by its Board of Trustees at their AGM this past June.
Deb was a Principal at St. Dominic Savio Elementary School when she retired from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board in June of 2014. Deb began her career in the Region in 1986 as a teacher and Department Head of Special Education at St. Jerome’s High School and then at Resurrection Catholic Secondary School. She has also been a Cooperative Education Resource Teacher, and a Guidance Teacher.
Deb began working at the Board office in 1998 where she was a Special Education Coordinator and then the Principal of Student Services. Deb moved back to the school environment in 2006 as the Principal of St. Margaret before her final position as Principal at St. Dominic Savio Catholic Elementary School. She received the WCDSB Chairs Award in 2006 and has spent her entire career with the WCDSB.
Outside of her work with the school board, Deb is an active member of St. Louis Parish Community where she is also a regular attendee and Lector. Prior to accepting a position with the Catholic Community Foundation she was strongly recommended by Rev. Phil Reiley who referred to “her administrative and faith background” as “a strong asset to any board”. Her volunteer work, in addition to this Board of Trustees, has included volunteering with United Way and Out of the Cold.
Deb is married to Michael Schmitt and is a devoted mother to Kateland. She continues to live in Waterloo Region.
The Board of Trustees for the Catholic Community Foundation of Waterloo Region congratulates Deb Zettel-Schmitt and wishes her great success in this position.
